Calan Cymru Gwerin is a tactile and visual “calendar” depicting the seasonal practices of Welsh folk traditions. These pieces depict different rituals undertaken by working class folk throughout Wales dating from the medieval period till the first world war. These practices have been thoroughly researched, though with all things folklore you have to take it with a pinch of salt. These rituals marked the passage of time, the change of the seasons and linked the land and to those who worked on it.

These textile pieces are made from second hand and scrap fabrics and constructed using traditional hand embroidery techniques. The techniques used and no-waste ethos of my textiles practice is inspired by the traditional craft practices of Welsh quilting.

This self initiated project ran from Dec 2022- January 2025

Exhibited at Future Arts Collective Cymru Jan 2025 and Galeri Caernafon 2025
